Master Rights

Master rights –Master rights or recording rights refer to the ownership rights of the original sound recording of a piece of music. These rights are typically held by the recording artist, record label, or the entity that funded the recording process, giving control over how the actual recording of the music is used and distributed. In Europe, master rights are valid up to 70 years after the date of the recording.

For sync licensing, permission must be obtained from both the holder of the master rights and the holder of the publishing rights. The master rights holder grants the license for the use of the specific recording, while the publishing rights holder grants the licence for the use of the composition itself (music and lyrics).
