Composition – A Composition (or Musical Work) refers to the creative work consisting of the melody, harmony, rhythm, and lyrics of a piece of music. This is distinct from the sound recording (phonogram) of a performance of that composition. The composition is protected by copyright law, which grants the author(s) exclusive rights to control how the music is used, reproduced, and performed.
