Publishing Rights

Publishing rightsPublishing rights, or author’s rights, are one of the two primary types of copyright associated with a song, the other being master recording rights. These rights belong to the songwriters and the publisher of the specific song and are designed to protect the lyrics and music independently of the master recording. Publishing rights can also extend to sheet music.

In terms of synch licensing, both the publishing rights and the master rights need to be cleared and therefore multiple parties may need to be contacted to obtain the necessary licence.
