Personal Rights

Personal rights – also known as moral rights are the inalienable rights of copyright holders that cannot be sold or transferred. Moral rights are recognised in European countries and the UK, though specifics may vary by jurisdiction. Notably, the US does not recognise moral rights.

In the UK and many European countries, personal rights include:

  •  the right to attribution (to be recognised as an author)
  • the right to integrity (to object to derogatory treatment of their work that could harm the author’s reputation
  • the right to object to false attribution
  • the right to privacy.
